FRIENDSHIP CONNECTION

VOCATIONAL & LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMS

The Friendship Connection is once again teaming up with the Scala Art Center to create a fun and engaging summer program for children who may sometimes find navigating social terrain tricky. The Friendship Connection will provide the social facilitation and behavioral support necessary for children to participate in shared recreational and social experiences with their peers. In addition, each child will be supported in meeting their individual goals.

Children will experience a variety of art, movement, and filmmaking classes taught by a talented group of artists and teachers. They will also be exposed to a wealth of naturally occurring social moments that will provide room to develop relationships and practice social skills with their peers.

For a complete description of the program and information on how to reserve your space for next summer’s fun, please visit the Scala Art Center website scalaartcenter.com .

RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

Each month the Friendship Connection will host an outing open to all children who wish to participate. We will choose a different activity each month during which children can work on generalizing the skills they have been working on in groups, practice different social skills necessary to navigate a variety of community settings, and expand their relationships. The outings will be facilitated but the goal is to have them resemble the typical experience of “hanging out with friends” as much as possible. Prior to each outing, parents will receive a list of targeted skills the children will work on with independence and fun being the ultimate goal. Outings are also open to children not currently enrolled in groups. They can be a nice opportunity to meet new friends.

Fee: $20 facilitation fee plus cost of event which will vary depending on outing.

The children will be supported in managing their own money and paying for all the elements of the outing such as buying lunch, paying for movie ticket, or renting bowling shoes.

Check the monthly schedule for outings dates and times and look for e-mails containing activity details. If you are not on the e-mail list, feel free to contact us and have your information added.
